# Telegram videos on an *iPhone, an iPad* or any browser

There is no TMPlayer app in the App Store. Its web app, a beta at web.tmplayer.org, signs in to your own Telegram account and plays the videos already in your chats right in the browser. On an iPhone or iPad, add it to the Home Screen and it opens like an app.

## What it does

The same account and the same chats as TMPlayer on a TV, a phone or a computer, in a browser tab.

### Your chats

- Sign in with a QR code scanned by Telegram on another device, or with your phone number, the code Telegram sends and your two-step password if you have one.
- Your chats and channels with their videos as posters, a Home with Continue watching, and search.
- Only what is already in your chats: there is no catalogue and nothing to browse that you have not joined.

### The player

- A video starts while it is still loading, with no download first.
- MP4 plays as it is. MKV and WebM are repacked for the browser on the way, and HEVC the browser cannot decode is converted.
- AC3 and DTS sound, which Safari does not play, is converted, and you can switch between a video's audio tracks.
- Your own subtitle files: SRT, ASS and SSA (shown as plain text), WebVTT and MicroDVD.
- Picture in picture and AirPlay, where the browser offers them.

Need every format, downloads or casting to a Chromecast? See [what the apps play](https://tmplayer.org/formats/) and [every feature](https://tmplayer.org/features/).

## Add it to the Home Screen

It then opens full screen, with its own icon, like any other app.

1. ### Open web.tmplayer.org

On an iPhone or iPad use Safari; on an Android phone or a computer, any current browser.

2. ### Add it

In Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. In Chrome or Edge, take the Install offer in the address bar or the menu.

3. ### Sign in

Open it from the new icon and sign in to your own Telegram account. Your chats with videos appear, and a tap plays one.

## Star it if it helped

TMPlayer is free and open source. A star on GitHub helps the next person find it.

## Will it play yours?

### Yes

- An iPhone or iPad on iOS 17.1 or newer. On older ones, MP4 videos still play.
- A current browser on an Android phone or a computer.
- A Samsung TV from 2020 or later, or an LG TV on webOS 5 or newer, in the TV's browser (a beta): [how](https://tmplayer.org/guides/telegram-on-samsung-or-lg-tv/).

### Not yet

- No downloads to keep for offline: the apps for [Android](https://tmplayer.org/android/), [Android TV](https://tmplayer.org/android-tv/) and [computers](https://tmplayer.org/desktop/) have them.
- A video whose picture the browser cannot decode, even after repacking, does not play; the page says why.
- It is a beta: not tried on every device yet.

## Questions

### Is there a TMPlayer app for iPhone or iPad?

Not in the App Store. On an iPhone or iPad, open web.tmplayer.org in Safari: it is TMPlayer's web app, a beta, and it plays the videos in your own Telegram chats in the browser. Add it to the Home Screen and it opens like an app, full screen and with its own icon.

### Can I play MKV videos from Telegram on an iPhone?

Yes, on iOS 17.1 or newer. Safari cannot open an MKV file itself, so the web app repacks the video into MP4 as it loads, without converting the picture, and sound Safari cannot play, such as AC3 or DTS, is converted. MP4 videos play on older iPhones too. A video whose picture the browser cannot decode at all shows a message that says so.

### Is it safe to sign in to Telegram in the web app?

It signs in to your own Telegram account and talks to Telegram directly from your browser. There is no TMPlayer account and no server of ours between you and Telegram. The privacy policy at tmplayer.org/privacy lists what else it asks for, such as posters, and the source code is on GitHub.

### Can I download Telegram videos to watch offline in the web app?

No. The web app plays a video while it loads and keeps no downloads. To keep videos for later, use TMPlayer on an Android phone, an Android TV or a computer.

### Does the web app work on a Samsung or LG TV?

As a beta. Open web.tmplayer.org in the TV's own browser on a Samsung TV from 2020 or later or an LG TV on webOS 5 or newer: it opens a version made for the remote, with sign in by QR code. It plays what the TV's browser can decode.

More in [the questions](https://tmplayer.org/faq/), [the privacy policy](https://tmplayer.org/privacy/) and [how to check it is safe](https://tmplayer.org/security/). TMPlayer is unofficial and not affiliated with Telegram; it is for videos you have the right to watch ([lawful use](https://tmplayer.org/legal/)).

## Support TMPlayer

TMPlayer has no ads of our own (Telegram's sponsored messages appear in public channels, as Telegram requires) and no paid tier. If it saves you some bother, a coffee or a monthly sponsorship pays for the time that goes into it. It is voluntary and unlocks nothing: every feature is free for everyone.
