Telegram videos on Fire TV

Amazon's store has no Telegram app for Fire TV. TMPlayer fills the gap: a free, unofficial player that signs in to your own account and plays the videos in your chats, driven by the Fire TV remote.

Will it work on yours?

Works on

  • Fire TV Stick, Stick 4K and 4K Max, Fire TV Cube, and Fire TV Edition and Omni televisions, on Fire OS 7 or 8.
  • The same universal APK as every Android TV, with the TV layout, the remote and QR sign-in.

Does not work on

  • Fire OS 6 and older, which are below the Android 8.0 minimum.
  • Fire TV models that run Vega OS. They are not Android underneath and cannot install an APK.

Four steps

About ten minutes, once, with nothing but the remote.

  1. Check Fire OS

Open Settings, My Fire TV, About. Fire OS 7 or newer works.

  2. Install TMPlayer with Downloader

Turn on Developer options, install the free Downloader app, allow it to install unknown apps, then type tmplayer.org/download into it and install the file ending in -universal.apk.

The Fire TV install page walks through each screen, and covers adb and Send files to TV too.

  3. Sign in with a QR code

Open TMPlayer from Your Apps. Scan the QR code it shows: in Telegram on your phone, Settings, Devices, Link Desktop Device.

  4. Press play

Move through your chats with the D-pad and press OK on a video. It starts within seconds and keeps downloading while it plays.

Worth knowing

Keep it on the home screen

Apps from outside the store land at the end of Your Apps. Highlight TMPlayer, press the menu button and choose Move.

Updates come to you

TMPlayer checks for new versions itself and offers them, so Downloader is only needed once.

Low memory is fine

It is tested on a stick with 1 GB of RAM, the same class of hardware as the basic Fire TV Stick.
