Telegram on TV: Android TV, Google TV and Fire TV
Telegram makes no TV app. You can still get Telegram on Android TV, Google TV or a Fire TV Stick in a few ways: its phone app installed by hand, casting from your phone, or Telegram Web in the TV's browser. Here is what each one gives you, next to TMPlayer, a free player made for the videos in your own Telegram chats.
Updated
What Telegram itself offers for a TV
- Telegram's apps page lists apps for Android, iPhone and iPad, Windows, macOS and Linux, and two web versions. It lists none for televisions.
- Google Play on a TV does not offer Telegram, so on an Android TV its APK is installed by hand, as Xataka Android described in January 2025. Telegram publishes that APK itself, on telegram.org/android.
- Installed that way, the phone app opens in portrait with wide black bars on each side, unless another app forces it into landscape, the same guide found. You sign in with your phone number and the code Telegram sends.
- A search for Telegram in the Amazon Appstore on 19 October 2026 listed no app from Telegram itself, so a Fire TV has no Telegram app from Amazon's store.
- Since March 2025, Telegram for Android casts videos to a Chromecast or a TV with Google Cast.
- Telegram's apps are free and open source. Telegram Premium lifts download speed limits from your account on Telegram's side.
Three ways, and what each asks of you
The phone app on the TV
Everything Telegram does, on the big screen. It is laid out for a touch screen in portrait, so you steer a phone layout with the remote, and an extra app is needed to turn it sideways.
Casting from your phone
Open the video in Telegram on an Android phone and cast it to a Chromecast or Google TV. The phone stays in charge, and nothing is installed on the TV.
Telegram Web in the TV's browser
Telegram Web signs in with a QR code from your phone. It is a page made for a mouse and keyboard, driven with a remote, and it plays only the formats the TV's browser can decode, which often rules out MKV.
Telegram and TMPlayer side by side
Checked on 19 October 2026. Store listings change, so check the listing before you install anything.

Where TMPlayer does more
Made for the remote
Cards you can read across a room, a rail along the top, voice search, and a QR code to sign in, so nothing is typed on the TV.
Shows, resume and downloads
A show's episodes in order with skip intro, Continue watching, and downloads for later, or Low storage mode on a small stick.
Subtitles and audio tracks
MKV videos with their embedded subtitles, image-based ones included, and every audio track, switched while the video plays.
At home on a small stick
Tested on a TV stick with 1 GB of RAM. Low storage mode keeps only the part of a video you are watching, and the app offers its own updates.
Where Telegram is fine, or better
Everything that is not video
Messages, calls, stories, bots and the rest stay in Telegram's own apps. TMPlayer only plays, and keeps your phone for the rest.
Casting, already built in
If you only cast a video now and then from an Android phone, Telegram's own app does it, with nothing more to install.
Official, in the app stores
On phones and computers Telegram's apps come from the app stores and from Telegram itself. TMPlayer is unofficial and comes from its own site and GitHub.
Nothing to install
Telegram Web needs only a browser, which helps on a TV that cannot install Android apps at all.
Moving to TMPlayer
-
Install TMPlayer
On an Android TV or Google TV, install the free Downloader app, type tmplayer.org/apk into it and allow the install. On a Fire TV, turn on Developer options first. On a phone or computer, take the file from the download page.
-
Sign in with a QR code
Open TMPlayer and scan its code with Telegram on your phone: Settings, Devices, Link Desktop Device. You can also sign in with your phone number.
-
Keep Telegram for the rest
Telegram stays signed in on your phone and computer as before. TMPlayer is one more device on the same account, listed under Settings, Devices, where you can end it at any time.
Questions people ask
Is there a Telegram TV app?
Not from Telegram: its apps page on 19 October 2026 listed apps for phones, computers and the web, and none for televisions. On an Android TV, Google TV or Fire TV, TMPlayer is a free, unofficial player that signs in to your own account and plays the videos in your chats with the remote.
Can I download Telegram on my TV?
On an Android TV or Google TV you can install Telegram's Android APK from telegram.org/android by hand, though it is made for a phone screen in portrait. Samsung TVs on Tizen, LG TVs on webOS, Roku and Apple TV cannot install it, because they do not run Android. There, a TV stick or Telegram Web in the TV's browser are the ways in.
How do I get Telegram on Android TV or Google TV?
Google Play on a TV does not offer Telegram. Either install its APK by hand, or install TMPlayer with the free Downloader app by typing tmplayer.org/apk, open it and scan its QR code with Telegram on your phone. Your chats and channels then show with their videos as tiles.
Is there Telegram for a Fire TV Stick?
Not in Amazon's store: a search there on 19 October 2026 showed no app from Telegram. On a Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Cube or Fire TV Edition television with Fire OS 7 or newer, TMPlayer installs with the Downloader app and plays the videos in your chats. Fire TV models that run Vega OS cannot install any APK.
Can I cast Telegram videos to my TV?
Yes. Telegram for Android casts videos to a Chromecast or a TV with Google Cast since March 2025, and TMPlayer casts from a phone or a computer, MKV included, keeping your place for Continue watching.
