Cast Telegram videos to a Chromecast or Google TV
TMPlayer on an Android phone or on a computer casts the videos in your Telegram chats to a Chromecast, a Google TV or a TV with Google Cast built in. The TV plays the video, and your phone or computer keeps the controls.

What you need
You need
- TMPlayer 1.27.0 or newer on an Android phone, or on Windows, macOS or Linux
- A Chromecast, a Google TV or Android TV, or a TV with Google Cast built in
- The phone or computer and the TV on the same Wi-Fi
You do not need
- An app on the TV
- To download the whole video first
- A bot or a server: the video goes from Telegram through your own phone or computer to the TV
Four steps
The first time takes a minute. After that it is one press and a pick.
-
Join the same Wi-Fi
Put the phone or computer on the same Wi-Fi as the Chromecast or the TV. TMPlayer finds the receivers on the network by itself.
-
Press Cast in the player
Open a video in TMPlayer and press the Cast button: in the player's top bar on a phone, on the player bar on a computer.
-
Pick the TV
Choose the TV from the list. It says it is connecting until the TV is ready, then the video starts there.
-
Control it from your device
Play, pause, seek, skip, switch audio tracks and subtitles and set the TV's volume from the phone or computer. When you stop casting, your place is kept for Continue watching.
What does TMPlayer handle when casting?
MKV videos
An MKV video goes to the TV as HLS, cut at its own cue points, so the TV knows how long it is, seeks by itself and plays without stalling.
Audio tracks
Audio tracks switch on the TV. On a phone, a soundtrack the TV cannot play is converted to AAC so it is heard, with your audio and subtitle choices kept.
Subtitles
Subtitles show on the TV, and you turn them on or switch them from your phone or computer.
A 4K video on a 1080p TV
TMPlayer says so instead of failing. If the TV cannot decode the picture at all, it tells you rather than converting it.
If the connection drops
The video waits with Reconnect and Play here instead of starting on the phone, and a short pause from Telegram is retried.
Your place
When you stop casting, the video carries on from where the TV was, and Continue watching keeps it.
What does it not do?
- AirPlay to an Apple TV: TMPlayer casts to Google Cast receivers only.
- Casting without your device: the phone or computer sends the video, so it stays on the same Wi-Fi with TMPlayer's player open until the video ends.
- Converting a soundtrack on a computer: that is done on a phone only, so from a computer the TV plays the soundtracks it can decode.
Can Telegram's own app cast to a Chromecast?
Yes, on Android. Telegram added casting to its Android app in March 2025: open a video, tap the Settings icon and pick Chromecast. Telegram's announcement names Android only, and it does not say which formats, soundtracks or subtitles the cast handles.
So for a video Telegram's own player already plays well, its Cast option may be all you need. TMPlayer also casts from a computer, sends MKV as HLS, converts a soundtrack the TV cannot play on a phone, and carries your place over to Continue watching.

When is a player on the TV itself better?
When the TV is an Android TV, a Google TV or a Fire TV, installing TMPlayer on it is usually better than casting: the TV fetches the video from Telegram itself, you use the TV's remote, and the phone is free the moment you have scanned the QR code.
Casting is the better route when the TV takes Google Cast but cannot install apps, when you are at someone else's TV, or for one video now without installing anything.

Support TMPlayer
TMPlayer has no ads of our own (Telegram's sponsored messages appear in public channels, as Telegram requires) and no paid tier. If it saves you some bother, a coffee or a monthly sponsorship pays for the time that goes into it. It is voluntary and unlocks nothing: every feature is free for everyone.
